MTG Season Officially Kicks Off

August 27, 2011.Around two hundred elementary and high school students coming from both public and private schools all over Bacolod City flocked Trinity Christian School to attend the first session of the Mathematics Trainers Guild (MTG) series of trainings for this school year 2011-2012. After passing the qualifying exam last July 28, 2011, these students are now qualified to join the 12 training sessions that will be conducted every other Saturday of each month for the rest of the school year.

By passing the qualifying exam, these students already showed exemplary mathematical skills thus these skills will be further honed in the training.

MTG Phils strives to foster among participants interest and awareness in the power of mathematics. The training provides stimulating mathematics problems. By attending the regular sessions, they will develop the values of patience and understanding in solving tricky and complicated mathematical equations.

The activity will help teachers identify talented students and will prepare them for local, national and international math competitions.

To date, many students from Bacolod City have won international math citations because of the MTG training. In TCS, we have the legendary Jon Henri Ma who swooped many international math awards, Ostin John Ong, Ma. Joenelle Grace Plotena, Timothy James Tan - the leading Sudoku whiz and many others who are also on their way to stardom.

Other schools have also produced international winners like the Tay Tung High School and the St. John's Institute. It's also amazing to see that during local math contests such as the Rotary Academic Excellence Contests, MTAP DepEd Math Challenge and many others, these MTG kids are mostly competing for the awards.

The schools who joined the training are the Trinity Christian School, Bacolod Tay Tung High School, St. John's Institute, USLS-IS, UNO-R, St. Joseph School La Salle. St. Scholastica's Academy, Queen of Peace and many others.

The trainers of this activity are also math teachers coming from different schools like the St. Joseph De La Salle School, TCS, and Tay Tung who were trained by the MTG National Office.
