TJ Tan is Philippine’s New Sudoku Champ
He did it again! Timothy James Tan, TCS' math wizard and a mainstay of the national mathematics team, is the country's new Sudoku champion during the 5th Sudoku Super Challenge national finals at the SM City North EDSA in Quezon City last January 29, 2011.
He beat four other contestants from other schools during the finals in the grandmaster division in less than 5 minutes out of the allotted time of 30 minutes. He scored a total of 1,576.33 points for five rounds in the day long competition, according to Dr. Simon Chua, MTG president.
Tim, as commonly called by his classmates, is a very shy individual in person but is a whiz especially in mathematics. He has been a member of the national math team since 1997. He had represented his school and the country in many international math contests and had brought a lot of awards.
He is presently in 2nd year high school and is a consistent honor student since his kindergarten years. He said that he is dedicating all his victories to God Almighty, to his parents and siblings, and to his school for all their support.
He will again represent the country in the international Sudoku championships in Singapore, Thailand and Hungary in the near future. (with reports from Phil. Daily Inquirer)
