Olsen Ong bags silver in International Math Tilt
There is no stopping Olsen John Ong for winning math competitions one after the other. This time he won a silver medal in the individual competition during the 4th International Young Mathematicians' Convention (IYMC) organized by the City Montessori Inter College, Gomti Nagar Campus, Lucknow, India last December 2 to 5, 2010.
The Philippine delegates were hailed as 2nd place in the overall ranking of the contest. They could have made it as champion if only they joined the math fair exhibit. The contest was composed of five contest activities namely: Math Fair Exhibit, Relay Contest, Individual Written Contest, Team Activity Contest and the Math Quiz. Nevertheless, the Philippine teams placed SECOND in the overall ranking of which our teams' total score was higher by 5 points than that of the Korean teams which ended up 1st place in the overall ranking.
This year's 4th IYMC was participated in by 14 countries namely: Bhutan, England, India, Indonesia, Iran, Korea, Nepal, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Philippines.
Dr. Simon Chua, MTG president and head of the Philippine delegation said that this is the last international math competition for 2010 for our country's math wizards.
"Our delegates were simply amazing. They gave their best that makes us proud as Filipinos, " he further commented.
