Ostin John Ong, a senior student was hailed as the Most Outstanding Student in secondary level - a contest sponsored by the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association (NOPSSCEA). He bested the other 4 semifinalists coming from other private schools in the locality.
The Search for the Most Outstanding Student was conceptualized by the idea of recognizing the meritable performance of the students in various fields such as academics, sports, cultural and other extracurricular activities.
Ostin received a cash price, a certificate and a trophy during the NOPSCCEA Teacher's Day celebration last January 29, 2010 at the UNO-R gym.
Meanwhile Timothy James Tan has been going places, conquering math challenges one after the other. This time, he became the grand champion of the Sudoku Wizard category, besting the 74 other contenders all over the Philippines and taking with him the P50,000 plus trophy and gift items.
The 4th Philippine Sudoku Super Challenge was organized by the MTG and Business Mirror in cooperation with SM Supermalls, SMNE Annex, SHARP Calculators, SM Bowling, Phoenix Publishing House, National Bookstore, DDB, Europa PR, and Ogilvy Philippines.
The major winners of the 4th Philippine Sudoku Super Challenge will represent the Philippines in the World Sudoku Championship on April 29 to May 2, 2010 in Philadelphia, USA.
Ostin and Timothy are also set to join the MTAP Dep Ed Math Challenge Final Round on February 12 which will also be participated by students coming from both public and secondary schools in Bacolod City. The two also topped the elimination round of the said activity given last January.
