MTG kids shine anew in Division Super Quiz Bowl
Endowed with quick and analytical abilities, their minds are like whirling machines devouring the intricate mathematical problems in just seconds... Speed, coordination and skill... all combined into one made them win competitions one after the other... be it locally or internationally.
And their efforts once again paid off!
Timothy James Tan, fresh from his stint in India, captured the championship reign of the 30th Super Quiz Bowl in Mathematics. Tailing just a point behind him was another Trinitarian Math whiz, Ostin John Ong who won 2nd place. Irene Therese Bermejo, a grade 6 student also got 3rd place in the elementary category.
These three dominated the math competition held last November 17, 2009 at Gaisano City, participated in by students coming from private and public schools in Bacolod City.
An annual event, this activity is spearheaded by the Department of Education, division of Bacolod City to encourage friendly competitions among schools and to tap mathematically gifted students to excel in this academic area.
To date, Tan, Ong and Bermejo were also winners of math international contests held abroad.
They are set to join another national and international competition this end of November of which our country is the host.
Presently they are members of the Mathematics Trainers Guild (MTG) a prestigious national organization that trains mathematically gifted students to develop excellence in Mathematics education. These students are subjected to rigorous training to reach their fullest potential.
The organization also provides a venue for students to interact with their foreign counterparts.
