STC Reaches Out to Sacadas

December 21, 2013
"I shall pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again."
                                                                                                                Etienne de Grellet (1773 - 1855)
The early morning sun was barely up on the horizon as some teachers and staff, together with some STC officers went out to four different places in Bacolod City with one mission in mind: to give out some Christmas packages to the sacadas. Packed in bright green bags, the packages contained spaghetti packs, rice, some noodles and other basic grocery stuff. Beaming with excitement, the different teams went and looked for these groups of people along the highways. Since Bacolod is normally surrounded by sugarcane fields, it's not that difficult to spot them as their numbers are in abundance early in the morning.
Along the way, Trinitarians stopped and called the sacadas' attention. At first some of them just looked, puzzled as to why these people were waving at them. After a while, they ran toward us, eager to receive the gift packages. Others were so enthusiastic that they started telling their friends to hurry up and receive their share. The packages slowly disappeared. The students, so touched and eager to distribute the packed goods, even went out of their way, trudged on the newly mowed fields, and delivered the packages to these people.
The happy faces, the grateful hearts, the tears, the overflowing mention of "thank you's" were more than enough to warm the Trinitarians' hearts. By giving, it's not only the sacadas' hearts that were blessed but more so for the Trinitarians who were so happy to be a blessing to them. Not all were given as there were only 150 packs prepared. Because of this, Trinitarians resolved to prepare more next time.
Many times, we tend not to appreciate the blessings that the Lord Almighty has given us. Because we can have them without toiling hard on the fields and we can have them with little effort at all. But for the recipients, to receive such blessings is just like winning the lottery.
We who are blessed should always be thankful for what we have. We have all the opportunities to share these blessings and so let's make giving a part of our daily lives for indeed we shall only pass this way but once. Any good therefore that we can do let's do it now...
